Bow report 10-9-10-11
Friday afternoon I loaded the truck and headed west for Cabbage Creek. I got there in time to hunt about 20minutes or so and saw exactly zero. I hunted the buck block stand on that sitting. I pulled the trail camera card and reviewed it that night at the camp and was surprised to see (3) different bucks had been there since Wednesday night and all were racked bucks. One had been at the stand the morning before at 9:30 am.
Well, that was all I needed to see to put me there the next morning. Even though I knew this stand was to far from lay-up to hunt near a new moon I went anyway. I fought it the whole time and just knew I was wasting my time. I had a real hard time staying in the stand till 10:00am. Guess how many deer I saw…..”0”
Also, caught with his hand in the cookie jar was a real nice black bear! I had seen his sign nearby where he had pulled the buds out of some palmetto’s and a young cabbage. You can’t believe how strong you would have to be to pull a bud out of a palmetto….I bet 5 men couldn’t do it!
The pictures on the card were not the best as the camera was flashing low battery.
From there I went to the Moccasin Drain stand to check the corn and pull that card. This is the stand I wanted to hunt as it is a lay-up and feed stand. When I opened the cam it read 391 pictures! I just shook my head. I don’t know if I even want to see this, I thought. When I got the card opened up I was pretty disappointed, it was mostly coons, as many as five in one shot. Only (3) does used the spot in a week. The interesting thing was that 3 days in a row they were there late in the afternoon at about the same time. I thought….self, this appears to be some valuable information that I might be able to capitalize on! Wrong again. The fourth day was a change in plan and no deer showed, at least not before the end of shooting light.
I had pulled the camera card at the kill zone stand in the afternoon and there he was! A shooter buck at 8:30 am that morning and I was in the wrong stand. Another interesting bit of information was that the racked buck I got early in the week was back and he came by Thursday in the daylight also. I think he may be a seven point. He seems to be scared of the camera. It is set to take a 3 shot burst and he was only in one frame and in that one he was looking right at the cam.
Steve has not seen a deer this weekend either.
This moon has the movement fouled. The cameras are showing scattered movement at various times of the day and night.
I’m headed to the kill zone in the morning and we’ll see how it goes. I would love to run into that big 7!
Here’s some pictures from this weekend:
Best of hunts,
Larry
